Marcel Frecon

Was I scared? Who wasn’t!

I am 83 now. I think of the war sometimes. I’ve been back to Holland twice. I have friends there. We talk by phone.

Pontoon Bridge over the Rhine?

I don’t remember Etten. We went all the way through, though, right into Germany. We spent the Winter in the Hochwald Forest.  I remember the Essex Scottish coming through our position. A friend of mine tried to come and see me, but couldn’t because we were under fire.

In German farmyard – last day of the war.
